Sussex Golf Caddies Learn Mandarin Chinese
A golf club in East Sussex has employed a language expert to offer Mandarin Chinese lessons to all its caddies in a bid to attract Chinese-speaking golfers.
The Dale Hill golf course in Ticehurst has hired Mandarin expert, Paul Noble, to give crash courses in Manderin to it’s employees. This has been an effort on the part of the local golf club to reach out and show Chinese tourists that they will be very welcome on their golf courses, according to an article in The Argus.
The article goes on to say that the owners of the club hope to be able to attract some of the estimated 150,000 Chinese tourists visiting the UK every year, each spending an average of £1,300 on retail and leisure, to visit East Sussex as their next holiday destination.
Leaderboard Golf, which owns and operates some of the most renowned golf courses across the south of England, has launched this campaign as part of a wider initiative, since they recognise mainland China's position as the largest international tourist market and one of the fastest growing for golf.
