The Federal Court of Canada has demanded that the Canadian airline, Air Canada, pay $12,000 to the Ottawa French-language rights crusader, Michel Thibodeau. The amount has been awarded for, in part, an English-speaking flight attendant giving a can of Sprite instead of a 7Up to Mr Thibodeau. He was refused service in French from the English-only-speaking flight attendant when he ordered the drink.Mr Thibodeau had previously complained that Air Canada contravened the Official Languages Act in Canada which stipulates that the airline provides its service and communication in both the official languages of French and English.
