Learning Languages Can Boost Your Career

It has been reported that foreign language skills are ranked second only to IT skills in a poll conducted for the National Centre for Languages (CILT) in the UK.

In addition, the survey also found that one in four of the 500 companies surveyed said that the ability to speak a second language would give a candidate an edge over other applicants when applying for a job.

The UK candidates were losing out to employees from other countries who had additional language skills, which gave them a distinct advantage.

Developing language skills is also an important part of career development and is encouraged by large multinational companies as well as small and medium-sized ones.

There has been a huge emphasis on learning Spanish among its employees since 2005, when O2 agreed to acquire Spanish telecom firm Telefonica in a takeover agreement.
