Prince William Speaks…French During First Official Overseas Tour To Canada
Prince William and his new wife Catherine, who are now known officially as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are currently in Ottawa, Canada on their first official overseas grand tour. The Royal couple were met by thousands of welcoming crowds.
During an address at Government House in Ottawa, Prince William began his speech in French, continuing in English. The Duke, speaking of his ability to speak French during his speech, said (in English) that 'It will improve as we go along'.
He will have to be partially bi-lingual during the tour as French is one of Canada's official languages.
Friday 1st July is an especially poignant date for their visit as it is Canada's national day or Canada Day.
The couple joined the celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa whilst back home in London, UK, Canada Day is being celebrated in Trafalgar Square.
