Pope's New Twitter Account Has More Than A Million Followers

The Pope is now on Twitter! The 85 year old Pontiff has debuted his Twitter account @pontifex and immediately gained over a million followers. His very first tweet was sent in eight different languages from eight Twitter accounts to the delight of his many followers.

A Vatican spokesman said that the Pope had been very keen to get on Twitter. According to the Vatican, the Pope will not actually be writing his tweets from now on, but his officials will do so on his behalf. Some of the tweets will be based on his speeches.

The Pope's first tweet said "Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart."
