Txt Language Creeps In2 School Work
As the use of SMS or texting continues to rise, some students and teachers claim that it is beginning to affect school work. Instead of using don't, night and please, the SMS equivalents 'dun', 'nite' and 'pls' are creeping into student's school work. Language is also being abreviated so words like do, the and a are being missed out of sentences, as well as punctuation.
However many teachers claim that such errors are due to laziness, rather than ignorance. Kathleen Yancey, a professor at California State University, has said if a student is proficient in texting, but not in reading Shakespeare perhaps a teacher could ask students to translate Shakespeare into text language.
"Why not?" she said. "They might actually learn something."
