Shakespeare's Plays Performed In 38 Languages

There will be quite an international feeling in the air at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, and we're not talking about the tourists in the audience.

As part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, several of Shakespeare's plays will be performed in 38 different languages. Examples include The Tempest to be performed in Arabic, Titus Andronicus in Cantonese, Julius Caesar in Italian, Henry VIII in Spanish, King Lear in Aboriginal and Taming of the Shrew in Urdu with Nadia Jamil, a Pakistani TV star, playing Katherine.

The project aims to demonstrate Shakespeare's global impact and make his works accessible to a wider audience. The multilingual venture seeks to reinforce Shakespeare's status as a cross-cultural and timeless literary figure.
