LOL Enters The Oxford English Dictionary

The internet slang term 'LOL' meaning 'Laughing Out Loud', has entered the latest edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. 'OMG' meaning 'Oh My God' already appears in the dictionary proving that these internet slang terms are widely used in the English language.

They are used in texts, emails, social networking sites and even in the spoken language.

English language purists are not enthusiastic about having internet slang included in the dictionary though. Some believe that it reflects a 'creeping illiteracy' and deterioration of the English language.
