Easter is celebrated every year usually sometime between late March and late April, depending on the date of the full moon. This year it falls on 24 April 2011.

Easter is an important religious festival in the Christian calendar. Christians believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead three days after his crucifixion and they celebrate his resurrection on Easter Sunday (also known as Easter Day). Easter also marks the end of Lent which is traditionally the time to give up something in penance.

Christians and non-Christians alike celebrate Easter in other ways – mostly by eating lots and lots of chocolate! This tradition started in Germany, where the Easter Bunny was said to deliver a basket of eggs to children the night before Easter. Today, this has become a huge commercial tradition with people giving out chocolate eggs to friends and family on Easter Sunday, particularly in English-speaking countries such as the UK, United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Some European countries also follow this tradition giving chocolate animals of all descriptions (chickens, birds or fish). Many Eastern European countries still decorate eggs for Easter.

Why not give a language gift this Easter? We have a great selection of gifts – language courses, foreign language films, world music and even magnetic poetry so you can say Happy Easter to everyone in your house in another language!

Give a very different gift this Easter. Give the language advantage!
