Workplaces
are multilingual and multicultural
|
"The
scope of our client base has shifted ... and we now have international
clients more than ever before. Instituting a good language
policy and language/cultural training program should be a
priority for us, but in the USA these things are still undervalued.

About
80% of you have customers and colleagues of different cultures,
speaking different languages.
Around
50% of you also have suppliers and partner companies that are of
different cultures and that speak different languages.
Around
30% of you work for companies that operate globally and a further
30% for companies that operate internationally. 32% work for companies
that operate nationally, 17% for regional companies and 15% for
local companies. Note a company may operate over more than one territory,
for example, regionally and locally.
Even
two-thirds of you who work for national, regional and local organisations
have customers and colleagues who are multicultural and multilingual.
