Companies
using language services
|
"It
can only be an advantage to speak the language of the country
you are doing business with."
|
You
know that languages help you at work. 80% of you say that language
and cultural skills would help you at work. You believe language
training and multi-lingual staff would help you most. Many also
believe that having a language policy, cross-cultural training,
translation and multi-lingual websites are also very important.
|
"Our
company policy is English as the language of communication.
We do not get cultural training which I believe is more important."
|
Even
so, you're not providing the language services at work. While two-thirds
of you work for companies with multilingual staff, only about 20%
of you work for companies with a language policy. There is a language
gap.
And
the picture gets worse. Because even where companies have provided
language services, you're still not using them. About a third of
respondents have used translation and language training with their
companies, although very few have been on secondments and made use
of relocation services. So there is a double language gap.
|
"The
only thing they insist on is sending foreign employees to
a Dutch course, but it doesn't take. As for relocation assistance,
they say they give it, but I never saw any."
