The
London Language and Cultural Learning Show taking place on the 2nd
and 3rd November 2001 at the Novotel London West Exhibition Centre,
is the UK's only exhibition and conference dedicated to the promotion
of languages, culture, language services and new technology for
language learning and teaching.
The
Languages at Work 2001 survey results will be revealed at the event.
According to the survey conducted by languageadvantage.com, there
is a massive
untapped talent in the workplace, with around 50% of respondents
having language skills that they are not using at work. These are
primarily French, German, Italian and Spanish.
The
Languages at Work 2001 survey has been carried out as part of the
European Year of Languages 2001. Businesses across Europe and the
rest of the world should reflect on whether they are using the languages
talent in their workforce to best advantage. Perhaps there is a
need to take international communication and relationship building
more seriously, given the competitive threat from businesses in
some countries who have language strategies in place which offer
their employees language training, cross-cultural training and the
opportunity to work with their languages. In this way, organisations
will be able to readily respond to all their customers, wherever
they come from, and whichever language they may speak.
A Multilingual
Recruitment and Training Centre sponsored by Girl About Town magazine
will feature at the London Language & Cultural Learning Show
after the huge success at last year's show when hundreds of job
seekers made use of the facility. This specialist area provides
an ideal forum for people searching for job opportunities with languages.
Running alongside
the exhibition is a comprehensive seminar programme presented by
Trade Partners UK and the Languages National Training Organisation.
Friday's programme is dedicated to the business sector. The programme,
primarily aimed at business trainers and executive learners, will
look at ways to develop language skills for the workplace. The programme
includes; Flagging Tongues? presented by Helen Vandevelde,
which looks at how globalisation, technological advance and organisational
change are intensifying career pressures for individuals and competitive
pressures for companies. No Languages, No Job? by Keith Marshall,
here the myths surrounding the nature of employment for linguists
are convincingly demolished and replaced by a real and optimistic
expectation for those bringing language skills to the workplace.
An exclusive
give-away will take place at the event; Culture Shock! are giving
a free guide to the first 100 people to book one of the three cultural
seminars, taking place at the show. Culture Shock! Guides are a
unique series designed to navigate cross-cultural confusion, giving
essential insights into the culture and customs of another country
to open doors, break down cultural barriers and pave the way to
cross-cultural understanding.
The London Language
& Cultural Learning Show is the ideal opportunity for job-seekers
interested in pursuing careers abroad or using languages in the
UK to find out how to achieve these goals. Admission to the exhibition
is free of charge.
