The Inti Raymi or ‘Festival of the Sun’ is celebrated on the 24th June every year near the city of Cuzco in Peru, the capital of the ancient Inca Empire. The main event is the reconstruction of the Inti Raymi as a theatrical play in Sacsayhuaman. Today it marks the Andean New Year.

The Amazonian Tribe With No Linguistic Concept Of Time

An Amazonian tribe called the Amondawa tribe, has no concept of time in their language. Researchers in Brazil have discovered the Amondawa language lacks the linguistic structures that relate to time as we know it – there does not seem to be a word for ‘time’ or for periods of time such as ‘week’ or ‘month’. The Amondawa people seem to talk about events and sequences of events rather than time itself.

A 21 volume dictionary of the ancient language of Ancient Mesopotamia as well as its Babylonian and Assyrian dialects has finally been completed after 90 years. Scholars from the University of Chicago deciphered the language which was preserved on clay tablets and on stone inscriptions, in order to create the dictionary which has 28,000 words. Read more
