Start a trend and give a St. Patrick’s Day gift. In case you hadn’t noticed all the green celebrations happening on Tuesday 17 March, it was St. Patrick’s Day! This day celebrates Saint Patrick, one of the patron saints of Ireland. It is a Christian festival inviting you to think about St. Patrick, as well as loved ones overseas. It is a National Holiday in Ireland and a Bank Holiday in Northern Ireland.
St. Patrick’s Day is also a chance to celebrate the best of Irish culture. It is a party day with revellers wearing green (the colour associated with Ireland) and shamrocks (the Irish emblem). They attend parades and drink lots of Irish ales and beer, mostly Guinness! The Irish, non-Irish and expats join together in the festivities which happen not only in Ireland and Northern Ireland but also the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the tiny island of Montserrat and even Uruguay! On this day everyone is Irish!!
Take the time to learn a bit of the Irish language so you can impress everyone next St. Patrick’s Day!
